Fairfield recently topped the 100,000 population mark, making it the second most populous city in Solano County. The seat of county government since 1858, Fairfield celebrated its Centennial in December 2003. It is strategically located at the intersection of three major transportation routes – Interstate 80, Interstate 680 and State Highway 12 – midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. Fairfield has the highest level of retail sales in the county, with Westfield Shoppingtown Solano Mall, the only regional, indoor, retail shopping center.
