State Parks

Angel Island State Park
Accessible by ferry from Vallejo, Tiburon or San Francisco, this park offers 758 acres featuring an immigrant quarantine station, Nike missile base and military overseas staging area. It also has environmental campsites and mooring facilities. CALL 415-435-1915

 

Auburn State Recreation Area
Located one mile south of Auburn on Highway 49, this 42,000 acre area offers family, environmental and primitive campsites (no potable water) as well as more than 50 miles of riding and hiking trails. CALL 530-885-4527

 

Brannan Island State Recreation Area
Three miles south of Rio Vista on Highway 160 is this 336 acre area which offers 102 developed family campsites and those for hikers and/or bicyclists, as well as accommodations for trailers and campers. Showers are available in the boat-in camp only, but there is a visitor's center and a snack bar in the summer. Groups of up to 180 may also camp here. CALL 916-777-6671

 

China Camp State Park
Located northeast of San Rafael via US 101 and North San Pedro Road is this 1,640 acre park with 31 primitive walk-in sites. CALL 415-456-0766

 

Colusa-Sacramento River State Recreation Area Located in Colusa, nine miles east of Interstate 5 is this 67 acre park with 22 developed campsites with accommodations for trailers and campers. CALL 530-458-4927 or California State Parks or 916-895-4303

 

Donner Memorial State Park Located two miles west of Truckee on Donner Pass Road is this 353 acre park with accommodations for trailers, campers and two 154 acre developed sites. There are cross-country ski trails and a museum open from 10:00 - 4:00pm with exhibits on Donner Party and the area's history. CALL 530-582-7892

 

Samuel P. Taylor State Park
Family campsites plus special sites for hikers and/or bicyclists are available at Samuel P. Taylor Park, located 15 miles west of San Rafael on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. The park is made up of 2,708 acres, 60 developed sites and accommodations for trailers and campers. CALL 415-488-9897

Sonoma Coast State Beach This area, encompassing 5,000 acres, is composed of Bodega Dunes Campground, located half a mile north of Bodega Bay on Highway 1, and Wrights Beach Campground, six miles north of Bodega Bay on Highway 1. Bodega Dunes offers 98 developed sites and accommodations for trailers and campers. Wrights Beach offers 30 developed sites, trailer-campers accommodations, but no showers. Willow Creek (in Wrights Beach Campground) offers 11 environmental campsites. CALL 707-875-3483

 

Folsom Lake State Recreation Area This area offers 17,718 acres of activities, including accommodations for trailers, campers, 180 developed campsites, showers at Beal's Point only, 10 miles of bike trails, 60 miles of riding and hiking trails and horse rentals, seasonal marinas with gas and boat rentals. Fort Ross State Historic Park
Located12 miles north of Jenner on Highway 1 is this 1,165 acre park featuring the most permanent Russian settlement in the state. There are family campsites and a visitor's center. CALL 707-847-3286 or Russian River District State Parks 707-865-2391

 

Lake Oroville State Recreation Area
With 137 developed campsites at Loafer Creek Campground and 75 sites at Bidwell Canyon Campground, visitors to this area should keep busy. There are also floating environmental campsites and boat-in campsites in four areas around the lake on a first come, first served basis. The area is located seven miles east of Oroville via Highway 162. CALL 530-538-2200

 

Mount Diablo State Park In the mood for a little hiking, horseback riding or just plain view seeking? Take in the 360 degree panorama view from the top of Mount Diablo while visiting the 18,000 acres state park, just five miles east of Danville off Interstate 680 in Contra Costa County. Mount Tamalpais State Park Mount Tamalpais State Park is located on 6,218 acres just six miles west of Mill Valley on the Panoramic Highway. It offers stunning views, nature hikes, foot and bicycle paths. Park hours are 7:00am to 9:00pm. Admission is free. CALL 415-388-2070

 

Salt Point State Park Twenty miles north of Jenner on Highway 1 is Salt Point State Park, offering 5,970 acres with 130 developed sites (no showers), 30 enroute sites, 10 hike-in tent sites and accommodations for trailers and campers.
